Where do Our Restaurants Shine – and Fall Short? We'll Reveal All at GastroLove

  • Curiosities

Our head inspector, Michal Ondriš, will join fellow gastronomy professionals and enthusiasts in Piešťany. On September 26, the city will host GastroLove, an event dedicated to connecting and supporting people working in gastronomy and tourism.

The GastroLove project, which has been bringing together people passionate about hospitality since 2018, is heading to Piešťany this September. This “unconference” has helped countless professionals reconnect with their passion and continue evolving in their careers. The upcoming edition will take place on September 26 in the stunning venue of Elektrárňa Piešťany.

Visitors can look forward to a full day of talks, panel discussions, and workshops, along with all-day catering featuring outstanding food and drinks. The central theme of this year’s edition will be hospitality – explored through the perspectives of directors of top Slovak hotels and restaurants, sommeliers, and bartenders.

One of the speakers will be Michal Ondriš, head inspector for Gault&Millau Slovakia, who will share what international inspectors focus on when rating restaurants.

“We’ll reveal what cost restaurants the most points – but also where Slovak establishments truly shine,” says Ondriš.

“At Gault&Millau, we want to fully support the local gastro scene to deliver the best possible experiences for guests, without overlooking the details. We’ll talk about all of that at GastroLove.”

Among the speakers will also be Gault&Millau-awarded chefs such as Patrik Pokrývka (Restaurant Sissi), Jozef Breza (Gašperov Mlyn), and Jaroslav Žídek (RIVERBANK Restaurant). They’ll be joined in a panel discussion by Marek Minarič, the chef who led Team Slovakia to an impressive 15th place at the world’s most prestigious culinary competition, Bocuse d’Or. Together, they’ll discuss what fuels their passion, what they love most about their work – and the moments when they felt like giving up.

Taking the stage will also be Daniel Tilinger of ECK Restaurant, currently the highest-rated chef in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He’ll be joined by Peter Lunter, the restaurant’s sommelier, as they explore the collaboration between chef and sommelier and what true hospitality means today.

Meanwhile, the two-toque Chateau Gbeľany will share how they discreetly hosted a Hollywood production team, including Jessica Biel and John Cena, for two weeks – meeting top-tier demands and keeping everything completely under wraps.
