Heading to Trenčín for culture? Here’s where to grab something good to eat

  • Curiosities

Trenčín has become the European Capital of Culture. If you’re planning a visit, we know exactly where you should eat.

Starting February 13, Trenčín will come alive like it hasn’t in years. The city has become the European Capital of Culture for 2026, and according to organizers, this weekend it will transform into one big stage. During the opening weekend, visitors can expect a packed program across squares, clubs, and schools – full of music, art, and new experiences. And if you miss it, there’s still plenty to look forward to in the coming months - you can check out the program here.

If you plan to visit Trenčín and feel like grabbing something tasty, here are a few tips from our inspectors:

OYSHI, 2 čiapky

OYSHI (meaning “delicious” in Japanese) stands out from the typical sushi-oriented restaurants, where quality is more an exception than a rule. Here, quality and creativity define the concept right in the heart of Trenčín. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted with a beautiful view of Trenčín Castle, and a relaxed, attentive staff will guide you to your table. The interior features beautiful wooden tables, distinctive wooden chairs, and a sushi bar extending directly from the kitchen, giving you a clear view of the chefs at work. The menu goes far beyond sushi – offering ramen and miso soups, Thai and other modern Asian specialties, and even touches of Indian cuisine.

Cafe Sissi – 2 toques

Chef Daniel Marek has breathed new life into the hotel restaurant beneath Matúš Čák Castle. The restaurant’s interior carries a historical spirit fitting to the location, enhanced by large windows flooding the space with light. The à la carte menu features many familiar dishes made from local and traditional ingredients – fish, veal, lamb, cheeses – all prepared in a modern, creative way that pleases both demanding clients and everyday guests. The tasting menu, on the other hand, offers several surprising and inventive combinations that are worth trying, as they best showcase the chef’s signature style and his team’s creativity. The beverage list is also well thought out, offering a wide selection of wines from around the world – including Slovakia – alongside cocktails, lemonades, and craft beers. All of this is delivered by a warm and welcoming team focused on making your day a little better than it was before you walked in.

REMYS – 1 toque

The moment you walk into REMYS, you know you’re in a Tex-Mex restaurant – thanks to American country music and interiors made from natural materials. The menu focuses mainly on burgers, a few classic dishes made from farm-raised meats, and various grilled specials prepared right on the terrace. Praiseworthy is their commitment to in-house products like smoked ham, homemade sauces, and buns. If you’re visiting Trenčín with family or a group of friends, REMYS is a reliable choice.

There are many more great establishments around the Trenčín county - check them out in the Restaurants section.
