Slovak gastronomy is facing another significant milestone. Following a successful qualification from the European semifinal, the Slovak National Chefs Team is preparing to travel to the World Final of the prestigious Global Chefs Challenge competition, taking place in Wales, United Kingdom.
The Slovak National Chefs Team is in the final stages of preparation ahead of its departure to Wales, where it will represent Slovakia among the world's best chefs.
The Global Chefs Challenge final, organised by the World Association of Chefs' Societies (WorldChefs), ranks among the most prestigious culinary events in the world. The culinary celebration will take place from 16 to 19 May 2026, with the Slovak team competing on the second competition day — Sunday, 17 May 2026.
The Slovak national team earned its place among the world's elite in February 2025 at the European Grand Prix and semifinal in Rimini, Italy. An outstanding performance in the senior category was delivered by chef Andrej Róth alongside commis Alex Beer. The team, led by National Team captain and Silver Chef of the Year 2025 Jozef Hromják, secured Slovakia's historic qualification for the world final.
Competitors will face exceptionally demanding challenges where every detail counts — from ingredient preparation techniques and flavour harmony to creativity and visual presentation. The competition will feature the best teams from each continental round, guaranteeing the highest level of gastronomy.
At the world final, the Slovak team will once again present the concept of the so-called "New Slovak Cuisine" — a modern approach that combines traditional and local ingredients with innovative techniques. This philosophy has long been championed by the Slovak National Chefs Team both at home and on the international stage.
"Competing in the world final is a tremendous honour for us, but also a responsibility. We want to show that Slovakia has its place on the culinary map of the world," said Andrej Róth ahead of departure.
Qualification for — and participation in — the world final represents not only a personal achievement for the individuals involved, but also a significant milestone for Slovak gastronomy as a whole. It is a unique opportunity to showcase the country, its culinary identity, and its talent on a global stage.
"We believe that during the final, the Slovak team will be cheered on not only by gastronomy professionals but by the general public as well. Regardless of the result, it is already clear today that Slovakia is steadily building its reputation on the international scene. We are proud to contribute to that, as members of the Slovak Chefs and Confectioners' Association," said National Chefs Team captain Jozef Hromják.
In addition to the Global Chefs Challenge World Final, the next major competition challenge for the Slovak National Chefs Team in 2026 will be the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg in November.
The National Chefs Team is a member of the Slovak Chefs and Confectioners' Association. Participation in the event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
