Bonsai Restaurant, located in the pedestrian zone in the centre of Ružomberok, is unassuming on the outside, giving little hint of what awaits you once you step into the spacious dining room designed in a modern style with elements evoking Asia. Graffiti on the walls and a neon logo create an almost street-food-like atmosphere. In addition to traditional Vietnamese cuisine, the menu also features contemporary dishes from Korea, Japan, and Thailand. A smaller sushi selection is also available, with a strong emphasis on the freshness of the ingredients. Classic Asian dishes are prepared using modern techniques and methods such as smoking or sous-vide. Service is friendly and appropriate for a restaurant of this type, although a little more engagement would certainly enhance the overall experience. The crispy duck breast with vegetables, jasmine rice and the house-made Bonsai sauce has already become kind of a classic here. The juicy, well-seasoned meat pairs perfectly with the pleasant sauce, vegetables, and rice. Be sure not to miss the fish spring rolls with peanut sauce or the hearty pho. The atmosphere is rather informal, with plenty of space between tables and louder music that nonetheless fits the concept well. The overall positive impression makes Bonsai a place equally suited to lunch, family gatherings, a date, drinks, or a business meeting.
