Vidiecky Dom – Maďarská reštaurácia

This Hungarian restaurant, tucked away in the picturesque village of Oborín, is popular with locals but also draws visitors from the surrounding area, who often combine a walk through the nearby protected landscape with a taste of Hungarian cuisine. The menu features Hungarian classics such as halászlé “korhely” style, served with lemon, a generous portion of catfish, and a pleasant spiciness. The restaurant’s flagship dish – the catfish paprikash with cottage cheese halušky – is presented in a gratin dish with cream, which can be gradually stirred into the perfectly seasoned sauce. The cottage cheese dumplings, studded with pieces of crispy bacon, are an essential element of this Hungarian classic. The Chef’s distinctive approach also extends to dessert. While the menu offers a traditional chestnut purée, we were drawn by the recommendation of the staff to try the house-made orange cake with mascarpone and caramel sauce, served as three small spheres sprinkled with dried flowers, a dish that pairs beautifully with either Slovak or Hungarian wine. A broader wine selection and a slightly more smiling staff would bring the experience closer to perfection. Nevertheless, this restaurant is an excellent stop for a satisfying meal and a boost of energy during a walk in this scenic region.
