A housing-estate pizzeria? Not at all. On Bazová Street in Bratislava’s Ružinov district, you will find an establishment that Slovak gastronomy needs more of. Although pizza can be ordered in almost every village these days, this one is different – not only thanks to its perfectly fluffy yet crispy dough, but also because of the inventive topping combinations. Mangalica bacon with honey, or pineapple and jalapeño salsa with coriander? And more along those lines. The effort to elevate pizza beyond a purely casual meal is evident. The dishes, prepared by young Chef Filip Urbanič, are balanced from start to finish, finely tuned in flavour, and fit beautifully into the concept of a pleasant, relaxed restaurant that is regularly quite busy. The roasted pointed cabbage with tahini dressing, pickled kohlrabi, apple, and chilli oil speaks for itself and has become something of a signature dish, one that tempts you to return the very next day. The same applies to the pasta carbonara, which was only missing a touch more of black pepper. Paying slightly more attention to guests in service and refining the exterior would elevate this restaurant even further up the Slovak gastronomic ladder.
