Spitz restaurant & bar

Spitz Restaurant in Starý Smokovec is a modern gastronomic venue in the Tatras, with a stylish ski-themed interior offering genuine, contemporary Slovak cuisine. The clean design and pleasant, spacious terrace immediately catch the eye, although during our visit the music on the terrace was slightly louder than would be ideal for dining. The service was accommodating, attentive even to a dog at a neighbouring table, providing a bowl of water without being asked. The menu combines traditional Slovak and Central European flavours with a modern twist. The broth stood out as a highlight – hearty, intense, and perfectly capturing the essence of home-style cooking. The pork cheeks with halušky were excellently executed; the meat was tender and juicy, and the dumplings were light and airy, though their temperature could have been slightly higher. Plum dumplings provided a pleasant conclusion to the meal, although we had secretly hoped for fresh plums rather than jam. Overall, Spitz deserves attention for its well-seasoned dishes and elegant presentation. It demonstrates a genuine effort to bring quality gastronomy to a tourist centre like Starý Smokovec. With greater consistency in service and refinement of minor details, it could stand out even more on the Tatras’ culinary scene.
