The medieval bastion, formerly part of the city’s fortifications, carries a unique genius loci and feels especially magical in winter. In summer, guests can enjoy the covered outdoor terrace with a grill. An extra benefit is a safe play area for children that families would appreciate, while the iconic SNP Museum nearby provides an additional attraction. The kitchen is based on high-quality ingredients, though some dishes would benefit from more refined technical execution. This is partially offset by an extensive wine list, with a strong focus on Slovak producers. The menu features classics of Slovak, Czech and Central European cuisine, complemented by international specialties and options for children. The steak tartare is ground more coarsely here, allowing the quality and texture of the meat to shine, while the paprikáš evokes a sense of nostalgia. The molten lava cake served at the end, however, could benefit from a more creative presentation. With improvements to the service, which should go beyond simply delivering plates, and a touch more inventiveness in the dishes, this restaurant would move to a much higher level.
