The tavern offers quality beer and delicious food made from local ingredients in the Levočský House, a former brewery. Building on this tradition, the establishment now produces several craft beers of its own produce. The menu is designed to complement the brewery’s character, featuring dishes that pair with beer as well as those prepared with it. The borscht, which arrived slightly later than expected, was presented in a charming small cauldron, yet it would have benefited from a stronger, more robust flavour. The addition of crisp beetroot was a pleasant touch, and a squeeze of lemon provided gentle acidity. The beef cheeks in beer with Karlsbad dumplings were tender enough to fall apart under the fork. The rich meat sauce was enhanced by root vegetables and craft beer; however, the dumplings lacked distinct character, which was not rescued by the parsley, and could have used a touch more salt. We enjoyed the dessert: pikelets with raspberry foam and house-made caramel. Service was friendly, though it lacked a spark of engagement or enthusiasm. Overall, the tavern offers a broad selection of quality beers paired with a thoughtfully composed menu, and the effort to harmonise the environment with the character of the establishment can also be appreciated. With a bit more focus on fine-tuning the details, this tavern has the potential to become a strong contender on Košice’s Hlavné Square.
