If you are travelling on business or simply exploring the region and are looking for a place that offers good value for money, Mamma Mia, just outside Banská Bystrica, is your reliable choice. The restaurant features a bright and airy interior in warm tones, an open kitchen, and a menu designed to appeal to a wide audience. Parking is also conveniently available. After all, who can resist Italian cuisine, pizza, or steaks? In addition to the regular menu, there are seasonal Chef’s specials, reflecting the availability of fresh ingredients. A printed drinks menu, including a selection of wines, would be a welcome addition. The foie gras from a local supplier impressed with its rich flavour and light texture, though its impact was diminished by a focaccia frozen at the centre. This was redeemed by the excellent pickled vegetables. The beef broth with subtle Asian notes could have benefited from slightly stronger seasoning, but in winter months it will certainly warm you up nicely. The chicken supreme with mashed potatoes and a demi-glace seemed like a safe bet, yet the dish was slightly overcomplicated by an orange reduction, which detracted from an otherwise good experience. Nevertheless, it is rare to find a roadside restaurant in this region that combines atmosphere, service, and cuisine as seamlessly as Mamma Mia does.
