Koliba Kriváň

10.5 | 20

Koliba Kriváň, built in the heart of the Podpoľanie region, is a tribute to traditional wooden architecture and local hospitality. From its beginnings, it has served travellers, seeking not only food but also a nice moment of rest in its natural setting. Convenient parking and easy access from the main road make local cuisine readily accessible to all. Through its ambience and strong emphasis on craftsmanship, the Koliba has become a symbol of preserving the region’s original traditional values. The staff are friendly and warm-hearted. The dishes are prepared following traditional recipes and are well-balanced in flavour. We were particularly delighted by the honest bean soup served with bread, as well as the Detvianska pochúťka. Some dishes would benefit from more careful technical execution; the filled poppy seed pirohy, for example, could be improved by being finished with melted butter. There is also room to refine the selection of house-made lemonades and to include wine, which is a natural part of gastronomy. If you find yourself in the area and in need of a satisfying meal, this is a place worth stopping by. In winter, a fire burns in the fireplace, and you are likely to leave with a sense of pleasant warm feeling.
