The legendary Slávia Café is located on one of Slovakia’s most beautiful and lively pedestrian zones. The Art Nouveau building feels noble and imposing, while the impressive interior blends history with modern comfort: high ceilings, crystal chandeliers and large windows overlooking the promenade. At weekends, the slightly nostalgic atmosphere is enhanced by live piano music. The kitchen is led by Chef František Sedlák, whose menu presents traditional Slovak flavours in a modern interpretation with clear respect for the origins of the ingredients. The à la carte menu is divided into a daytime and an extended evening offering, which feels less than ideal for this type of establishment. At lunchtime, desserts are replaced by cakes displayed in the counter. The smoked trout with apples, celery, and horseradish emulsion showcased the kitchen’s creativity and its confident handling of flavour and presentation. The fried veal schnitzel proved that simplicity, when done well, can be truly outstanding. Here, the veal schnitzel rivals, and in places even surpasses, its Viennese counterpart. The potato salad with horseradish crème fraîche, house-made guanciale, and a generous amount of Pecorino finished the dish beautifully, elevating it to a genuinely memorable experience. If the otherwise professional service showed more enthusiasm and engaged guests with greater empathy and passion when presenting the dishes and wines, Slávia would undoubtedly rank among the very best.
