Grand Restaurant RESIDENCE HOTEL**** Donovaly

The Grand Restaurant enjoys an excellent location in The Low Tatras, with large parking, a solid wine selection and a stylish dining room that offers views of the surrounding landscape. The luxurious interior, decorated in warm cream and brown tones, adds to the overall sense of comfort. As an added bonus, the hotel accommodation with Ayurveda treatments and access to hiking trails makes this a great weekend destination. The question is whether a restaurant led by the well-known Chef Andrej Roth can live up to the high standard of services offered on site. During our visit, we were the only guests in the restaurant, yet we still noticed a few shortcomings in service and longer waiting times between courses. That said, the flavour and technical execution of the dishes made the wait worthwhile. The zander ceviche with horseradish ice cream and pork rind crisps, complemented by crunchy cucumber and citrus notes, set our expectations very high. The ice cream in particular was truly unforgettable. This was followed by an excellent freshwater fish soup with a full body and perfectly balanced seasoning. The arancini with aged sheep’s cheese, well-seasoned herb mayonnaise and tomato sauce are also worth trying. For a moment, you will forget you are in the mountains and feel as if you have been transported to sunny Italy. Grand Restaurant is a complex and ambitious establishment that will appeal even to demanding food lovers. With a few details refined, it has the potential to aim very high in restaurant rankings. Give it a try; you will not regret it.
