Castellum Cafe

Castellum Cafe, located beneath Nitra Castle, offers not only lovely views over the city but also good-quality coffee and regional wines. Set directly under the castle walls, the restaurant brings a clean, minimalist style to this attractive location. The menu follows the same philosophy, allowing guests to choose freely from dishes ranging from chicken and duck breast to pork tenderloin, grilled fish, beef steak, and traditional bryndzové pirohy. The vegetable cream soup with almond cream, sautéed brunoise vegetables and chermoula dip was visually appealing, though the flavour would have benefited from a bit more salt and an additional accent. This contrast was evident when compared to the cauliflower and carrot purée with quinoa and Alfredo sauce, which complemented the well-prepared chicken breast nicely. The Norwegian krémeš stood out for its restrained sweetness, although the pastry was slightly dry. There is room for improvement in wine knowledge, wine selection, and seasoning. Otherwise, the restaurant is an ideal stop during a weekend walk.
