Doma u nás is located directly on the picturesque main square of historic Spišská Sobota, housed in a 700 year old burgher house that feels elegant and decidedly premium. It is exactly the kind of place you step into and immediately sense that you are about to be part of something special. Stone walls, warm wood and recessed shelves filled with books and carefully chosen objects create an interior that balances homely comfort with understated elegance. Under the guidance of one of Slovakia’s most respected and experienced Chefs, Erik Volk, traditional ingredients are reworked into refined, creative dishes using modern techniques. The kitchen follows the rhythm of the seasons, draws on regional produce and also offers a tasting menu. As a starter, we recommend lightly smoked salmon trout served with caviar, homemade herbs and beetroot. You will fall for it thanks to the gentle smoking, the beautifully clean flavour of the trout and the freshness of the green herb oil. The caviar brings salinity, and the beetroot an earthy depth. Everything feels balanced, well thought out and visually appealing. For the main course, we chose the duck leg, a perfect example of how traditional Slovak cuisine can feel truly luxurious. The meat is roasted to a deep golden colour while remaining juicy and tender. It is served with a glossy demi-glace, sweet and sour cabbage, and small accents of rowan berries and chestnuts that add texture and contrast. The dish beautifully unites Slovak tradition with modern precision in presentation. The žemľovka dessert did not disappoint either and provided a fitting, comforting finale to the meal. There is still room for refinement if the restaurant aims for the very top tier, particularly in a more engaged service when presenting the dishes and in the depth of the wine list. That said, Doma u nás is an excellent choice for guests seeking modern Slovak cuisine in an elegant setting, paired with the intimate atmosphere of a historic house. An added bonus is the option to stay overnight in the boutique hotel, complete with a lovely wellness area and a rum and cigar lounge.
