Balans bistro

Balans bistro is probably the best-known vegan bistro in Bratislava and is popular even among non-vegans. It is located on an unassuming side street near the Presidential Garden. The vege-bryndza demikát served with fried vege-bryndza pirohy comes impressively close to the original meat version, while chive-infused oil and fried veg-bacon add character. However, both the soup and the pirohy could have been served warmer. The staff recommended the vegan burger “Say Chilli-Cheese”, a fusion of an Asian-style fried veggie-cheese patty flavoured with jalapeños and miso-lemon mayonnaise. Unfortunately, in combination with the coleslaw, the flavours felt somewhat lost. The veggie patty itself was rather flavourless, and its consistency was far too soft. On the plus side, the house-made spelt bread bun and crispy chips were enjoyable. Dessert, a poppy-seed-lemon muffin, did not improve the overall impression after the main course. The dough was quite dry, and even the extra cream did not help. The overall experience was further affected by inconsistent service: one waitress was natural and smiling, while the other appeared lost and incommunicative. Nevertheless, Balans bistro successfully connects the vegan and non-vegan community and has secured a stable position in the capital.
