Attila-Čunovská csárda

Traditional Slovak-Hungarian cuisine under one roof – that’s how we would sum up Attila Čunovská csárda in a single sentence. Here, you can enjoy dishes prepared according to time-honoured Slovak-Hungarian recipes by the head Chef and owner, Attila himself. We could not resist the fish specialities; after all, what would a visit to a csárda be without fish soup? Made from three types of fish, with a rich, deeply flavoured broth and served with homemade bread, it could easily stand in for a main course. A nice extra touch was the chilli, which the staff automatically brought to the table. We would have appreciated a bit more paprika, though, as it is so characteristic of this kind of soup. Staying true to Hungarian classics, we continued with catfish perkelt. The fish was beautifully tender and flaky, while the bold sauce was mellowed by the cottage cheese in the dumplings. The dishes would have benefited from just a pinch more salt. For dessert, we had a generous portion of pancakes made from light, fluffy batter, filled with vanilla cream and caramelised banana, and topped with chocolate sauce. Perhaps slightly over the top, but still enjoyable. You will find this honest, traditional cuisine in the outskirts of Čunovo, which requires a bit of a detour, but the experience is well worth the trip.
