A dinner at the castle like a fairytale? Even that is possible, in the romantic Pálffy Manor House, located only about 10 km away from Bratislava. The manor house was built centuries ago by Katarina Pálffy, who was a lover of life and wine. She also planted the adjacent vineyard, from which the wine is still produced today. The restaurant Arte located on the first floor of the manor house will transport you into a different world. The central fireplace dominates a room filled with art and historic furniture. You are seated by the professional and always smiling staff, so the first part of the 10-course performance can begin. Jiří Zajíček and his team serves the first trio of small bites and you can also sample a great sparkling wine from the local winery, called blanc de blancs. The next part of the dinner takes place in the dining room, which has round tables and an open kitchen where you can see the two Chefs finishing their preparation of the individual courses. The evening could have been a bit more interesting if the wine pairing had included wines from outside the local winery as well. The Blaufrankish wine paired with pigeon and the Danube wine paired with beef were outstanding choices. These dishes were amongst the best we have eaten this year. Pigeon, with its distinctive flavour served with beetroot cupcake filled with cherry tartare, horseradish cream and borscht sauce was unforgettable. Beef cooked in milk, served with foie gras, lardon, oyster mushrooms, milk caramel, cognac and cabbage chips were in our opinion one of the best ideas of the year. There aren’t many romantic restaurants in Slovakia for a dinner for two that would also satisfy even the most demanding food lovers.
