Starý Šmakovec Restaurant is located in the heart of Starý Smokovec, which is a natural stop for many tourists while visiting the Tatras, and it is easily accessible. The exterior, with its terrace, combines the traditional charm of a Tatra-style koliba with the feel of a modern mountain restaurant in wood and dark tones. Inside, however, it resembles more of a casual beer pub with an informal atmosphere. The menu is diverse, featuring traditional Slovak dishes alongside burgers and steaks. We particularly recommend the steaks, prepared on a Mibrasa grill – especially the Japanese A5 wagyu, which delivers a world-class experience. Thanks to the marbling and the Mibrasa grill, every mouthful is tender, flavourful, and indulgent. The preparation respects the quality of the meat and ensures the correct degree of doneness. We also recommend the šúľance with unusual white poppy seeds – a classic dish reimagined, with a playful fruit chutney adding a vibrant touch. If the service staff were more engaged and enthusiastic in presenting the dishes, the restaurant could easily reach the next level. Starý Šmakovec is ideal for tourists seeking more than a quick meal.
