Starý Biskupský Hostinec

The almost two-hundred-year-old neoclassical building is a jewel of Nitra’s city park. A renovation carried out a decade ago has transformed the space into a refined and elegant interior filled with high-quality materials, where numerous artworks serve not only as decoration but also as functional elements dividing the large dining room into more intimate sections. During the summer months, guests can enjoy a terrace that also works well as a café space. The menu is equally appealing: concise, seasonal, thoughtfully composed and well executed. The Hokkaido pumpkin velouté would have benefited from a smoother texture and greater body, but its excellent seasoning largely compensated for this. The salmon ravioli with saffron ricotta were a true delight, delicately filled, with an elegant fish flavour beautifully complemented by a saffron cream and herb oil. We concluded our visit with an outstanding house-made sour cherry mono-dessert, a fitting farewell to this pleasant venue. The restaurant is part of the portfolio of the exceptional Jelšovce distillery, whose products are also featured on the drinks list. Should the wine list be further refined to better match the quality of the food and spirits, this place has every chance of becoming a true gem of Nitra.
