REŠTAURÁCIA DIVNÝ JANKO

10 | 20

DIVNÝ JANKO (Weird Janko) is indeed weird – in its own eclectic style. Right at the entrance, guests are welcomed by portraits of Slovak historical personalities decorating the walls. It was in this house that Janko Matúška, one of the poets of Ľudovít Štúr’s group of writers, wrote the lyrics of the Slovak national anthem. The interior is more reminiscent of Italy, with each room offering a distinct character. We began our Sunday lunch with chicken broth, which had a nice colour and a generous portion of hair-thin soup noodles. The amount of meat and vegetables in the soup, however, could have been greater. The rich portion of beef goulash with in-house-made Carlsbad dumplings was certainly the star of our Sunday lunch. And what could be more fitting to finish a Sunday lunch with than pancakes? A slight improvement in cleanliness and a more personal approach from the service staff would be beneficial. Nevertheless, if you are looking to experience a traditional, household-like Slovak lunch without intruding on anyone’s privacy, you will not make a mistake by heading to DIVNÝ JANKO.
