Karlovy Vary is a byword for top-tier porcelain. It was here, 140 years ago, that the traditional G. Benedikt manufactory was founded — a workshop that keeps pushing this old craft forward. Craftsmanship remains the foundation, but a new layer has been added to it: technology, sustainability and a steady stream of design releases.

Made in the Czech Republic, thinking years ahead

The entire production takes place in Karlovy Vary, which is also where new shapes and decors are developed. That means a shorter path from idea to finished product, and direct control over quality at every step.

Sustainability here is part of how the plant runs, not an extra marketing slogan. G. Benedikt invests in technologies that cut energy use and reduce waste in production — from adjusting the firing process to working more efficiently with glazes. Stars: a pattern with roots in glass

The newest addition to the range is the Stars collection. Behind it stands designer Miroslav Machek, who comes from a family of glassmakers. The Stars motif wasn't dreamed up at a desk — it's a pattern well known in glassmaking as the Viennese mat.

That's exactly what the shape was originally meant to be called. But during development the workshop started calling it "the little stars," and that's how the final name, Stars, came about.

The reference was a matte pattern, and the goal was to keep that soft matteness in porcelain too. That's no given — carrying the fine texture of glass over into porcelain demands precision at the very edge of what the material allows. The porcelain rose to the task: it faithfully transferred the imprint of the mould down to the smallest detail, including the fine, demanding Stars pattern.

Decolab: room for porcelain with its own face

G. Benedikt's innovations also include its own decolab — a facility for digital printing on porcelain. Where classic decoration (screen printing, transfers) requires making stencils and large production runs, digital printing allows the pattern to be changed directly in the data, getting from design to finished sample in hours rather than weeks.

For hospitality businesses this brings a concrete benefit: customisation. A restaurant, hotel or café can have its own logo, motif or colour variant printed to order, without having to commission thousands of pieces of a single design. Porcelain stops being just tableware and becomes a way to stand out — every venue can have something on the table that no one else has.
